Dear Eagle Rock Families,
Your summer “vacation” is almost over and we are hard at work to launch our 20-21 school year like no other! We are so excited to be making history together! When this community comes together, we can definitely find the silver lining in anything!
There have been many Zooms, and there are more to come. It’s going to be very important to follow our website and other social media. Once you connect with your classroom teacher, you will learn from him/her how to stay connected with what’s is happening in the classroom and how you can support that.
Here are some highlights of the week ahead:
Monday, August 17th
Tuesday, August 18th
Wednesday, August 18th
Thursday, August 20th
Some important notes:
Please keep in mind we are starting with a “Smart Start” to the year. This means we are being smart about our priorities. First and foremost, we want to ensure that everyone is connected and supported; that is our mission. Please do not stress over tech glitches; they happen to all of us. Just promise me you will not “give up”. We need you, and your child needs to be engaged in her learning with us this year. We are going to make history and we are going to ROCK 20-21!
Dear Eagle Rock Families,
It was great to see so many of you at the Welcome Back Zooms last week! We will be posting the powerpoint to our website, eaglerockelementary.org, where you can access any of the content you need.
Your words and thoughts on OPTIMISM inspired me and were another reminder why this community is so special, and why we thrive even under challenging circumstances. Our commitment to “we” and not “me” grounds us, and we keep what is best for ALL children at the center of our decisions.
Last week the theme of uncertainty was at an all-time high. I shared during my Welcome Back Zooms that the 1st Day of Instruction was either August 18th or August 20th, depending on LAUSD and UTLA agreements. I learned Friday night that LAUSD is standing by August 18th as the 1st Day of Instruction, however, students will “log on” with their individual teachers on August 20th. Activities for August 18th and 19th are still being developed. There will be school-wide information shared through Zooms and some scheduled pick up times for the instructional materials that are available. Please continue to be patient as I learn more; I want the information I share with you to be as accurate as possible. I will likely host more Zooms, if needed. Continue to monitor our communication methods.
A letter should be arriving to your homes later this week with information about zooms for orientations, and information about how you will be introduced to your teacher. Class rosters are being finalized as enrollment continues each day and causes changes in class sizes. The letter states 1st Day of Instruction as either the 18th or 20th; that is obsolete information now.
Effective communication is one of our top goals. You can access things like our website, follow Instagram, and subscribe to our e-Newsletter. Those are all optional, but they provide current information quickly and offer many helpful links. We also send information from the school, to ALL our students/families. If we do not have your current contact information you will not receive that; please let us know if you have moved and/or if you discover you are not receiving school calls/emails/texts.
New Student Orientation Zooms on Friday, August 14th:

Teachers will call families on their rosters the day(s) before the 20th, either on the 17th or 19th depending on the contractual agreement.
Families that need a device or hotspot can complete a survey and we will make arrangements and contact you. Please fill out: bit.ly/DeviceReqAug2020
LAUSD shared with me this weekend a Parent Handbook both in English and Spanish. It outlines many procedures regarding distance learning. We will make the link available on our website; I encourage you to review it.
Continue to stay healthy and safe! We are all very eager and excited to see your faces, even if it’s through virtual means! Those smiles mean the world to us! Continue to stay engaged; our success is absolutely going to be a team effort!
All my best,
Dear Eagle Rock Families,
I hope everyone had the best summer possible, and that all families are healthy and safe. As we face this unprecedented opening of a school year from a distance, I have faith in our community.
Yes, we are facing uncertainty collectively. That is a theme. But with our exceptionally strong sense of community I know we will continue to come together and make decisions that are in the best interest of ALL children and ALL families.
Respect, Optimism, Collaboration, Kindness, and Spirit will be high in demand this year, and I don’t have any doubts that the people that make up Eagle Rock Elementary & Magnet Center will find innovative ways to demonstrate this and model it for our children!
I know many of you have questions, and until the District and UTLA come to agreements on their negotiations, I am without a lot of answers. I share the frustration with you; I need answers to move forward on many of my opening tasks.
I would like to share some general information with all of you, however, and reveal some overall information about how we will approach the opening of the year. As details are revealed I’ll share them with you, of course. Besides, I want to see your faces!
Please join me for a “Welcome Zoom” this coming week. I’m offering 2 times, an AM and a PM so I can hopefully meet your needs. This Welcome Zoom is different than the Orientation Zooms we will have later this month, on August 14th.
